    How long is plaquenil good

I know its a supposed small risk, but thanks to Google I've uncovered some horror stories about vision issues after just 8mo-1yr and people swearing it is actually not uncommon. I've had the worst flare of my life over late summer, I've had 3 early miscarriages in 1.5 years, I'm almost always in some type of achy state or dead tired. Potential side effects and very real risks make the medication seem ridiculously dangerous. I'm not as familiar with MCTD but what I do know is that is can be just as dangerous as SLE. Is the vision loss something that will stop if the medication is stopped?

The usual starting dose of Plaquenil is 200 mg twice a day or 400 mg once a day, administered orally, in people weighing 80 kg or more. The usual dosage works for most people who take Plaquenil, but it is possible to increase or decrease the dose based on individual needs. It's important to watch for possible side effects and toxicity. I take Plaquenil for Lupus and it takes 4 to 6 months. For me, it always seems to take 6 months for me to feel the full effect and a marked improvement in my fatigue & joint pain. Hang in there! Plaquenil is NOT known to start working that fast. It takes anywhere from 4-6 months before the affects of Plaquenil are seen/felt. This is the case with everyone I know that takes it.

Your external symptoms are a sign that something very wrong is going on inside you. Why in the world would anyone choose to poison themselves? You have a choice to make between letting your disease run rampant and continue to damage your body until it can no longer fight back or using one of the few weapons you have at your disposal to slow it down. Unfortunately, you have to roll the dice and decide which risk you'd rather take.

It's been around 2 years now and I'm glad to say all side effects are long gone. So is my pain for the most part.

To treat malaria Plaquenil is usually given for 3 days, starting with one high dose followed by a smaller dose during the next 2 days in a row. Take Plaquenil for the full prescribed length of time for malaria. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared. Use protective clothing. It is recommended to be taken with food. Symptoms can start to improve in one to two months, but it may take up to six months before the full benefits of this medication are experienced. Of all the drugs I've had to take for lupus, plaquenil is probably the most mellow. It is my understanding that if it affects your eyes, it's a slow onset type thing, so if you're having your eyes checked regularly every 6mos, you will be fine.
