    Describe eye tests for plaquenil

In Sjögren’s, Plaquenil is used to treat many symptoms of Sjögren’s including fatigue, joint symptoms of arthritis and arthralgias (joint pain), dry mouth and dry eyes. Similar to its use in systemic lupus erythematosus, many clinicians feel that it is useful in reducing general Sjögren’s “disease activity.” One of the reasons that physicians feel comfortable in prescribing Plaquenil is its low risk to benefit ratio.

Oct 07, 2019 Study Finds Blood Levels of Plaquenil may be Important Indicator of Eye Disease Risk New research finds that measuring blood levels of the medication hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil in people with lupus may be an effective way to predict risk of retinopathy, a disease which results in impaired or complete loss of vision. I was told from the start by my rheumatologist I would have to have eye exams including visual field exams every six months due to the plaquenil therapy. My first two exams did include these tests. But my next six month appointment is coming up, and they told me I didn't need the visual field test this time so the appointment would be shorter. A review of the various OCT and visual field findings associated with retinal toxicity, as well as case presentations and illustrations, can help you be prepared when a patient on Plaquenil presents for an eye exam.

As with any medication, allergic reactions including skin rashes and non-allergic reactions can occur. This means that the side effects of Plaquenil are mild and infrequent compared with its potential benefits.

Eye doctor when you are on this medication so regular visual screening tests can be performed. If you are pregnant, considering becoming pregnant, or lactating, please discuss this with your doctor before taking this medication. However, hydroxychloroquine has been shown to be safe during pregnancy and breast feeding. This toxicity affects a part of the eye called the retina and can lead to color blindness and even loss of vision. An ophthalmologist eye specialist often can detect changes in the retina that suggest toxicity before serious damage occurs. Therefore, regular eye examinations, even when there are no symptoms, are mandatory. Plaquenil is a drug used to treat Rheumatoid Arthritis and Systemic Lupus Erythematosis. It is a very good drug and gives many patients significant relief from their symptoms. Plaquenil related eye complications are not common. Plaquenil can produce pigment changes in the macula of the retina.

Plaquenil/Hydroxychloroquine/Thinning Hair Jan 12, 2014 The main thing I noticed is that my blond hair has gone much lighter since I started Plaquenil the first time for a year. Again this could just be due to the natural ageing process I'm 51 but I read in the side effect sheet that this drug can cause hair lightening.
