Find patient medical information for Plaquenil Oral on WebMD including its uses, side effects and safety, interactions, pictures, warnings and user ratings. The usual starting dose of Plaquenil is 200 mg twice a day or 400 mg once a day, administered orally, in people weighing 80 kg or more. The usual dosage works for most people who take Plaquenil, but it is possible to increase or decrease the dose based on individual needs. It's important to watch for possible side effects and toxicity.

Taking hydroxychloroquine long-term or at high doses may cause irreversible damage to the retina of your eye. Hydroxychloroquine is also an antirheumatic medicine and is used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus.

  7. Hydroxychloroquine comes as a tablet to take by mouth. For prevention of malaria in adults, two tablets are usually taken once a week on exactly the same day of each week. The first dose is taken 1 to 2 weeks before traveling to an area where malaria is common, and then doses are continued for 8 weeks after exposure.

Maintenance adult dosage When a good response is obtained, the dosage may be reduced by 50 percent and continued at a maintenance level of 200 mg to 400 mg 155 to 310 mg base daily, administered as a single daily dose or in two divided doses. Suppressive therapy should begin 2 weeks prior to exposure; however, failing this, an initial dose of 800 mg 620 mg base may be taken in 2 divided doses 6 hours apart. -Suppressive therapy should continue for 8 weeks after leaving the endemic area. -Each dose should be taken with a meal or a glass of milk. Hydroxychloroquine may inhibit P-glycoprotein P-gp. Digoxin is a substrate for P-gp transport. For patients on a stable digoxin regimen and initiating hydroxychloroquine, no initial dose adjustment of either drug has been advised; however, serum digoxin concentrations should be monitored and used for digoxin dose titration as clinically.

Methotrexate and hydroxychloroquine Rheumatoid Arthritis. Hello thanks for your time. I started both of these ten weeks ago, I'm on 400mg hydroxy and 25mg of methotrexate. Last week I got in such a state about having to take them and it's got to a point where I constantly feel sick because I'm so anxious of having them, so I've been taken off hydroxychloroquine for two weeks so that now I only have medication on a Monday, I thought this would help.

Immune & Autoimmune - Sjögren's Syndrome Sjogrens and hair loss Re Sjogrens and hair loss Hi - I have had a lot of hair loss as well, and my first diagnosis was Sjogren's. We now think I have an overlap of Sjogren's and lupus, but my rheumatologist told me that hair loss can definitely occur with Sjogren's and that some people are helped by Plaquenil.

Hair loss w/ plaquenil temporary adjustment or permanent?
