Anyways- been diagnosed and have been taking plaquenil since around October- it was helping but my wrists and fingers were still in so much pain that I couldn't even get dressed in the mornings! Aleva.combination of mtx, plaquenil and sulfasalazine has helped me quite a bit over the yrs. It certainly is worth. If the plaquenil is helping and they say you need it, I'd take it - the side effects will go away. I've not had experience with sulfasalazine - but from what I've read, the side effects of that med are about the same as those of plaquenil. BTW - sulfasalazine is an anti-inflammatory.

    So my doctor wanted to put me on methotrexate and I read sooo many terrible things about it that I begged her to let me try something else first before going to the extreme w the methotrexate. Being a 23 yr old female who is getting married in July- weight gain feels like the worst thing that could happen to you.
